Being active and keeping moving is an important part of being healthy and well. Not only is it good for our physical wellbeing but also for our mental health. As a society our work life and recreation has become more screen-based, and as our cities have sprawled we are relying more on cars for transport. These things have made it harder for many to keep being active.

But there are things you can do to get your heart pumping. Here are some ideas:

  • Take the dog for a walk
  • Walk around to see a friend rather than texting
  • Walk to the shops, or park and walk
  • Take public transport
  • Take the steps rather than the lift
  • Get up from your desk to see a colleague
  • Ride to work
  • Walk to school
  • Use the outdoor fitness equipment in parks
  • Join a group or program
  • Join a gym
  • Take up a sport
