Profile: Lindisfarne Community Activities Centre

Tell us about Lindisfarne Community Activities Centre. What do you do?
The Lindisfarne Community Activities Centre is a thriving community hub offering a wide range of activities by local clubs, groups and organisations catering to various different age groups and interests.

It is also home to the Clarence City Band who serves the community by fostering and performing music for beginners to accomplished musicians, and a unique Community Library which features popular titles and the latest releases of fiction, non-fiction, large print and Tasmanian books.

The Library is open Monday to Friday 10am – 2pm and Saturday morning 10am – 12midday. New members and volunteers are always warmly welcomed. There is a $7 yearly joining fee.

How does your organisation operate? How does someone go about accessing your service?
The Centre is managed by an office manager and a team of dedicated volunteers who are supported by Clarence City Council.

The Centre has two rooms available for hire. A large carpeted hall (Roadside Hall) which features a stage area that is able to seat up to 100 people and a smaller back hall (Riverside Hall) seating up to 80 people featuring wooden floors and a kitchen facility. Seating and tables, table clothes and crockery are also available.

If you could give one health and wellbeing tip, what would it be?
Become a volunteer. The more we give, the happier we feel. Volunteering increases self-confidence. You are doing good for others and the community, which provides a natural sense of accomplishment. Volunteers are happier people!

How can we improve health and wellbeing in our city?
By supporting and participating in our local community groups and clubs to ensure that they continue to thrive and grow for the next generations.
