Connecting in with people has become both easier and harder. We’re part of a global community and often our networks extend across the world. This is made more possible by ready air travel and new technologies including social media. Our local networks and community connections on the other hand are often not as strong as they might have been 50 years ago.
There are a range of ideas and resources that can help people to connect with their local community, from stopping to chat to your neighbour, to organising street parties or sharing gardening tools. Here are a couple of websites you may want to look at that give some ideas about how to live more connected at a local level:
Street By Street Project
This works by establishing local neighbourhood groups that choose their own activities and operations. For more detail check them out here.
Sharable
Some interesting ideas for ways to share resources and create good connections can be found here.
Often it just takes one person to start to a community transformation. Chat to one of Council’s Community Development Officers or your local neighbourhood groups if you want to throw around some ideas.
